Dressmaking {with Colette}

July 25, 2011

So i’ve been thinking about having a go at making some clothes for a little while now. I love vintage clothing but am rubbish at shopping for it, i can spend hours rummaging through junk shops on the hunt for the perfect tea cup {at the moment i’m looking for limoncello glasses, don’t ask?!} but rummaging for clothing, vintage or non – not that interested. So with clothes being pretty pricey over here in Aus, it feels like a good time to give it a go.

Looking for patterns is another mission, i’ve been keeping my peelers peeled for vintage ones but today i found Colette and am very happy i did. Gorgeous patterns, timeless styles and, fingers crossed, fairly simple to make.

I’m thinking this sweet little blouse in a seersucker or light cotton…

….and I love this skirt with it’s cute buttoned front. Colette have at least 16 patterns to choose from including some really sweet dresses. They are based in the US but you can order from their online shop. If your in the UK you can find them at Raystitch or in Australia try Can Do Books  who are offering free postage until midnight tomorrow, woo hoo! I’ve also signed up for their little ‘Snippets’ newsletter so i get handy sewing tips emailed every week, brilliant, i’m such a novice i think i’ll need them!
