A spot of light reading

March 24, 2011

A trip to Newtown for some props today and i a quick detour into this store:

Which meant a happy half hour or so flicking though lots of lovely mags, plus i came away with a few purchases…

I was really chuffed to see Uppercase in there as i’ve been umming and ahhing about subscribing for a while, it seemed silly to do so as we were moving from London to Sydney and then back again so i snapped it up when i saw it on the shelf. Frankie is a cute aussie mag dedicated to ‘fashion, art, craft, music, creative peeps, homewares and good times’, nice! Peppermint is along a similar vain but with an eco, recycled, fair trade slant. All to be devoured with tea and biscuits, yipee!

Some tasty looking pages from Uppercase, looks just as good as i thought. It’s a real labour of love by all sorts of talented people from writers and photographers to illustrators, who all lend there time to make the magazine. It’s a great site to stop by, who knows you may be inspired to submit some work yourself, they are currently asking for Cereal packet designs and floral photos, the best of which will be featured in the next issue.

But they don’t just stop at magazines they even publish books, one of which i can’t wait to get my hands on, ‘A Collection a Day’ by Lisa Congdon.

A collection for everyday of the year, real or imaginary. Amazing.
